Discover Reiki Sessions that are Neurdivergent-Affirming

What makes reiki different with me is the way I hold space. I am all about creating collaborative, consent-led reiki sessions, shaped by an understanding that every nervous system and sensory profile is different. My approach is down-to-earth, and responsive to working with you to discover how your body finds calm.

Co-creating a space that works for you

If the world often feels like it moves at a volume or intensity that wears you out faster than it seems to for others, you’re not alone in that. Many women with neurodivergence (whether diagnosed or often not) experience heightened sensitivity to light, sound, touch, taste, or smell, which can mean that even what are generally perceived as textbook 'calm' environments can hold an uncomfortable stream of sensory input — lighting, background noises, certain textures, or scents that others may not even notice.

This daily sensory load can build up, leading to overwhelm, fatigue, anxiety, irritability, or shutdown. And when you add in pressures in everyday life to mask or meet neurotypical expectations — to make eye contact, try and force yourself to make small talk, sit still, suppress tics or the need to stim, tolerate textures, lights, or sounds that feel icky — it can keep your body far too often in a state of fight, flight, or freeze.

With me, you’ll find reiki sessions that meet you where you are. This is not a space that asks you to mask or fit into a version of calm that doesn’t work for you. Lighting, sound, blanket preference, pacing, everything can be adapted. The aim is simple: for your nervous system to feel safe enough to rest — on your terms, in your way.

What this Looks Like in Practice

  • Reiki sessions always take place fully-clothed and no products/oils are ever applied. The only thing I’d suggest you remove for the treatment if you feel comfortable are your shoes, but if you prefer to keep your shoes on that’s fine.

You are in full control of whether you prefer no-contact, light touch, or a mixture:

    • In reiki practice, no contact typically means the practitioner holding their hands a few inches above the body (but I can be further away if preferred, it would not affect the efficacy of the treatment).

    • Light touch involves resting my hands gently on the agreed body positions.

    • We will always take time at the beginning of every session to look at the different reiki hand positions and agree your preference for each - for some people this may involve a blend of some light touch, some areas with no contact, and some hand positions skipped altogether.

Of course our felt sense and preferences can change moment-to-moment so I don’t expect you to know in advance exactly what will feel right. We’ll work together on some ways you could signal to me if your needs or preferences shift part way through. Collaboration and ongoing consent is absolutely at the heart of my work.

  • In sessions, at any point you’re welcome to:

    • Stim

    • Shift or move your body

    • Use fidgets (I have a basket of fidgets you can explore and you can bring your own)

    • Take a break from the treatment to go to the toilet

    • Look after your baby (if you need to bring them for your session)

You can choose to have reiki while lying on the treatment bed, sat or lying on a swinging chair, the floor, a static chair, or moving between positions. I also hope to add an aerial yoga swing soon so you could lie down for a cocooning, deep pressure experience!

You can experiment to discover what feels right for you. This may shift from session to session and that’s totally fine.

    • Sound: If ‘relaxing’ spa music isn’t your thing, we can have silence, white noise, or your own playlist. You could also bring noise-cancelling headphones if you want to tune out more.

    • Lighting: The room has natural light or soft side lighting (no harsh overheads). If you want to wear an eye mask or sunglasses during the session, please feel free to bring them.

    • Scent: I don’t wear perfume or scented products, and I don’t diffuse oils, burn incense, or use candles or any other scents in the room.

  • Some people feel cool when they relax, so I keep some blankets of different textures/materials on hand. I’d let you place these over you however feels good to you - tucked in tight, left loose, covering just your legs - there’s no right or wrong, just what’s right for you and you can adjust this at any point in the treatment.

You’re absolutely welcome to bring your own preferred blanket (such as weighted blanket if you respond well to deep pressure), pillows, or other textured items to sessions. You can also bring a change of clothes if you have extra comfy clothes you’d like to wear for the treatment, and I’d leave you to change in privacy.

  • When you arrive, I will familiarise you with the environment, showing you the way in and out, where the toilets are, and encourage you to look around the room to help you land and your system start to calm. We’ll spend the beginning collaborating on how we can make the space be as relaxing as possible for you.

At the end of the session, I always leave a few minutes for you to transition out of the treatment and ready yourself before heading back outside. If you’re someone who knows you might need a bit more time just let me know and we’ll plan for this.

Reiki sessions that adapt to you — not the other way around.
